Girl's night out!

Girl's night out last night! We went to a movie and late dinner. Guess what movie? Oh yeah, Street Kings. I know it's only been two days since I saw it last, but Chels wanted to see it. I swear I had no influence on her decision... oh if you could only see my grin right now. We went with another friend, Mary Rose, who's pregnant, but said she was okay with the blood. I would have been vomiting.
Chels was cracking us up because every time someone shot a gun she jumped, and the whole bench shook. It's a good thing we were the only ones in the row. I love it when the movie theater is empty!
Next girl's night out, we're watching the Sex and the City movie. No blood, but plenty of drama. I hope we get a good group together this next time. Last night was last minute notice, so we didn't invite anyone but Mary Rose. Pregnant women need a night out more than anyone else!

Date Night!

Hubby and I had a date night Saturday!!! He picked the restaurant, so I picked the movie. Not that I would have seen any other movie- HA! I had to see Street Kings (Warning: This link is loud). I've already saved this movie on my Netflix queue. Is that bad? No, the movie is just that good.
It's violent (I had to cover my eyes during some of it) and there is adult language, but the story line is very noble. Keanu Reeves plays a cop with a good heart but questionable character whose wife died while cheating on him. (Everyone now- awwww, poor baby.) He slowly finds out that those around him aren't what they appear to be, and he has to make difficult decisions about who he wants to protect. I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, so that's all I have to say about that.
Hugh Laurie is in it also, and when his character appears, you are led to believe that he's a doctor. I was a little annoyed until he revealed who he really was. Don't get me wrong, I love House, but I know Hugh has the ability to play something other than a cynical doctor.
I haven't mentioned dinner yet for a reason. It was bad. Nothing against the Irish, but the meal I choose at the Irish restaurant we went to was bad. Chicken and bacon boxty is not something I recommend. The soup was excellent, and Hubby's fish and chips look yummy, but the boxty was bad. It was a tasteless, rubbery, thick crepe made with potatoes rolled around chicken and bacon. The only seasoning was sauce served on the side. The sauce tasted similar to the bloomin' onion dipping sauce they serve at Outback Steakhouse. I would love to know if this is an actual Irish meal and if it supposed to taste that way. Americans like to serve a lot of "fusion" dishes, and I really hope that this is just a bad example of what we can do to another culture's cuisine.
I still enjoyed myself. Keanu and Hugh can make up for a bad meal for me any day. Oh, and yeah, Hubby was there, too. ;)

Here's the trailer for you to enjoy.

Fabulously, Fantasmagorically Friendly (day after) Friday!!!

Hey, I'm only one day off this time. I'm getting closer!

This week I'm featuring Jen of Doodle Designs. She's another Swanky mom friend of mine. She's a busy lady, not only does she have an Etsy shop, but she also has a website and blog to keep up with, too. Although she juggles her life like all working moms, she finds that intentionally setting aside time for love ones is the best way to keep things in perspective.

She came up with her shop name because doodling is what she does! A self-professed Post It note junkie, she's always collecting ideas for new projects from those around her, and in her "nooks and crannies" of free time cranking out the adorable things you can find in her shops. She puts little bits of her family and friends into every piece.

She's been drawing since she could hold a crayon, and her mother gave her a great crafting start by surrounding her with projects during her childhood. She started selling her pieces to friends, and the rest came naturally.
Check out her Etsy shop, website and blog for all her adorable things, and buy something, would 'ya?

Time out for Mommy!

I found this lovely permission slip on Sunshine Dew. It's a lovely blog from Australia that I've recently started reading. She encouraged her readers to use it, so I am. I'm taking a break, or will be soon... When does naptime start?

Bonus Tip O' the Day!

Three quarters of a quart (there's some math for you!) of soy milk covers a nine foot by nine foot kitchen (and most of the adjoining laundry room) floor quite nicely.

Fabulously, Fantasmagorically Friendly Friday!!! (sort of)

I know, I know, I'm a slacker. This isn't news, okay?

This time around I'm featuring Cindy of Cindy's Creative Crochet. She's another one of my Fabulous and Swanky friends. I've actually bought two anklets from her (as opposed to wishing I had some of her things), and I love the one I kept. My sister loves the one I gave her, too.
Cindy came up with her shop name because she liked the "triple C thing." Her shop is mostly crocheted wire jewelry, but she also works in yarn. Unfortunately her cats add their own fiber, so she can't sell her yarn creations online.

Cindy got her crocheting start after a friend taught her how to chain, and she managed to figure the rest out on her own. The wire came later after she saw a necklace in a magazine and decided to give it a shot. She loves being able to make jewelry to fit her (most jewelry is too small for her hands). Finding she'd made more than she could use gave her a craft fair start, and a friend pointed her in Etsy's direction.

As a stay-at-home mom of five, her time is limited, but she squeezes in creating when she can. Luckily, her projects are small enough to travel. She loves collaborating with other artists like ClayChicks and really appreciates the online support from her other Fabulous and Swanky Moms!

Check out her shop, and buy something, would ya?

A mother's guilt is a nasty thing.

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities crept in- forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it well and serenly, and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old mistakes and nonsense."

Chill with the music.

I've had quite a week. Well, quite a seven day period. So I chose to pop in a movie tonight, grab a box of Milk Duds, and whine to all you people.
The movie, you ask? The Lake House. I really love the opening song, so that's what band I'm featuring tonight.
The song is called I Can't Seem to Make You Mine, and it's sung by The Clientele. It's on their Strange Geometry CD. They also have a new CD coming out on October 1st, but you can get the MP3's on Amazon.
I don't really think I'll be whining much after all, the Milk Duds are kicking in. Keanu might be helping a little bit, too.

I'm such an idiot!

I'm such a disorganized idiot! I had the prizes packed up, ready to go, and then they got covered up in my piles of fabric! Freya and Katie, I'm so sorry, and your prizes will be sent out tomorrow!
I swear my roots are blonde, and I just dye my hair brown.

Prayers and thoughts for you.

Music, when soft voices die
by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory,
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the beloved's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

You made this for me? You shouldn't have, really.

I've added two new links in my blog list. I stumbled on these last night, and let's just say, I stayed up WAY too late (or early depending on how you define morning) laughing hysterically. I chose the best giggle from each to give you a sneak peek.

What Not to Knit

The writers have a wonderful sense of humor (sometimes a little swear-y), and I can't decide which is better, the pictures or the comments.
For example, the pom-pom man is titled, "How to Punish a Cheating Man." I love it! I'm almost afraid to share these links because now I will have to seriously watch it to make sure nothing I give shows up on these blogs. I could picture Hubby in the pom-pom poncho, though... great, now I gotta pee.

Fabulously, Fantasmagorically Friendly Friday!!!

It's Friday!!! After my little vacation, it was really hard getting motivated until I realized who I was promo-ing today! I love this shop!

It's Able Mabel! This Swanky and Fabulous group of sisters each bring their own creative edge to their shop. They came up with their shop name from the children's rhyme.

"Mabel, Mabel set the table,

just as fast as you are able.
Don't forget the sugar, salt, vinegar
and don't forget the red hot peppers!"

The rhyme describes them perfectly and all the different personalities they bring, sweet, salty, zippy, and even spicy! They wouldn't fess up to me who was who, though.

They get their inspiration from everywhere, new supplies, fabrics, other artists, magazines, and old books. They really enjoy using those inspirations to make over boring things into something new and fabulous.

Like most work at home Moms, these ladies live for naptime. While babies sleep and preschoolers play, it's a free for all until school is out, and then it's a mad rush back to their own homes to get dinner ready. Of course, dad's night out turns into mom's night crafting, and all late meetings are used as an excuse to pull out the supplies as well!

Check out their shop and blog to get a peek into the crafty genius that is Able Mabel, oh, and buy something, would ya?

I won!

I love party favors. They make me feel like a movie star with a swag bag. Even if it's full of cheap dollar store toys and bubble gum. Anyway, I won a wooden puzzle from ImagiPLAY at the Mommies United Launch Party! I can't wait to see what kind it is, and my kids are going to enjoy it for sure.
